Sweet Strings at Sweetwater

In late 2021, Sweetwater expanded its product line to include Band & Orchestra. Among other things, I helped them create store pages and blog content about violins, violas, cellos, and string basses.

While I don’t play any string instruments myself, I spent several years of my career working with orchestra teachers and selling string instruments as a profession. So I was well-qualified to create new orchestra-focused content for Sweetwater.

Educational Articles for Parents

I wrote a handful of orchestra-related articles throughout 2022 and early 2023. Two of them are directed at parents shopping for their kids.

The Parent’s Guide to Orchestral String Instruments

As the name suggests, The Parent’s Guide to Orchestral String Instruments serves as an introduction to first-time orchestra parents.

In the article, I discuss the benefits kids get from playing in orchestra and give some buying advice to parents. The Parent’s Guide also works as a funnel into Sweetwater’s student rental program.

What Size String Instrument Do You Need?

What Size String Instrument Do You Need?” is a pretty self-explanatory title. I wrote this as a companion article to the above Parent’s Guide.

For the uninitiated, orchestral strings aren’t a one-size-fits-all kind of deal. Kids need different-sized instruments based on their age and size.

In this article, I go over several methods to help parents properly size their kids for the correct instrument. The post also includes a handy sizing chart to make things easy.

Orchestral String Product Pages

As part of the copywriting team, I wrote unique product descriptions for many of the orchestral string instruments at Sweetwater.

Eastman Strings

As a retailer, Eastman was one of my favorite brands to work with. So naturally, I got excited when their products came into my queue.

I wrote product descriptions for the majority of Eastman orchestral string instruments on the website. Here are some of my favorites:

Revelle Strings

Revelle is an up-and-coming brand in the world of educational strings. They primarily make student- and intermediate-level instruments.

I wrote the majority of the Revelle product descriptions on the Sweetwater site, including violins, violas, cellos, and basses. Here are a few examples:

The Donnie Reiss Touring Pro Violin

Donnie Reiss is a Nashville-based violinist with countless credits to his name. People know him today for his country band War Hippies. Donnie’s also filled in for the legendary Charlie Daniels after he passed away in 2020.

In other words, he’s the new “Devil Went Down to Georgia” guy.

Donnie teamed up with Revelle to produce the Touring Pro acoustic-electric violin — his signature instrument made for active performers and studio players.

This instrument is a Sweetwater exclusive with an artist’s name attached to it. So lots of care went into crafting the product page.

In the end, Sweetwater, Donnie, and Revelle were all very pleased with how the Touring Pro turned out. It’s since become one of the more popular violins on the site.
